Winter 2010 Style

Face - Up

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

“It’s all about the Style”, says film producer Adam, referring to his updated super-cool Mod look. Normally Adam only wears bespoke tailored clothing - although on this occasion he was wearing a very nice Paul Smith jacket. Adam uses several tailors and he says it’s not expensive to get clothes made - for instance Adams bespoke trousers cost him £38. I thought Adams look was so quintessentially English, right down to his classic Antler bag.

With the long evenings of summer, Oxford Circus is humming with activity and late night shoppers. But occasionally through the crowd I spot someone wearing somethng really different that makes them stand out from the crowd - like this guy.

Cutting it - with Aaron Ray Dowie

Samurai swords and cage fights? - all in a day’s work…

Bespoke fashion designer Aaron Ray Dowie has travelled his own path since graduating at Nottingham and Trent School of Art in 2006. When I tagged him at his South London home, he was designing a suit for Ricci Harnett to wear at the Cannes Film festival - where the actor’s latest movie Breath will be previewing. Aaron has also recently finished a sexy trench coat for Page Three stunner Keeley Hazel.

When he first works with a client like Ricci, Aaron starts off by asking about favourite movies, music, and what other men’s dress styles his client most admires. He will then sketch up some initial ideas based on their conversation and make a 3D representation.

Ricci has been really laid back about the whole process and allowed Aaron to do what ever he wanted to do - although he did ask to include some special features, such as his initials, within the finished design. So Aaron decided it would be a nice touch to embroider these through the end of each pocket - to reinforce them - using the same stitch as the suit fabric. This became a hidden detail which won’t be seen unless closely observed. In addition to this special touch, Aaron also uses knot tying techniques instead of button holes.

I had the good fortune of bumping into Lillian on two separate occasions . She is such a snappy dresser and really knows how to mix her vintage look, with contemporary touches.

Stepping Out - Rosebery Avenue

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

When I photographed these smart looking women as they were hurring on down Rosebury avenue, my eye was instantly drawn to the shape and silhouette of their clothes.

Brief Encounter - Hoxton

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

I came across this urban fashion photo-shoot in Hoxton - as you do. The photographer is out of picture to the left side and I was passing on my bicycle, saw a magic street moment and snapped and cycled off. Very cheeky!

Soho - Dream Machine

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I met Siavahn in Soho, where she works with a stylist for a top London photographer. She reminded me of a dreamy, romantic art nouveau painting, a look contrasted with her red buffalo shirt and studded leather jacket.
